Reunited and it feels so good

I got my camera back! The Pink Machine is back in my possession! I can't believe how much I missed my camera. I've barely taken any pictures of Cati since I sent the DSLR in for repair because the point-and-shoot is too slow and not sharp enough. Alex actually joked that I missed the camera more than I missed him. I swear I have two babies sometimes! Even Cati was excited to have the camera back:

Getting Back to My Roots

Today was a long day. I feel like I barely had a moment to myself. It doesn't help that I'm bummed about my camera. I sent it out to Canon today because there was nothing I could do to fix it. I tried cleaning it out (no dust Natalie), rubbing the contacts with an eraser, cleaning the contacts with Alex's glasses cloth, rotating the lens, and who knows what else. All I can do is hope that they fix it and get it back to me sooner rather than later.

To cheer myself up I'm thinking about Colombian food. I recently discovered that our local supermarket sells Colombian chorizo (sausage). This is huge because the closest good Colombian bakery is at least a 20 min drive and I try to avoid driving in Miami at all costs (not easily done, by the way). I've been wanting to learn how to cook more authentic Colombian and Cuban foods and eating this chorizo has inspired me. Are you guys familiar with Colombian or Cuban food? Anything you'd be interested in seeing?

April 21, 2010-August 14, 2010?

Can this really be happening? I haven't even had my Rebel for 4 months and it's already broken!! The auto focus stopped working so I can only take pictures in the manual focus mode. While I think it's a great idea to get comfortable with the camera in the manual focus mode, I just can't do that with Cati. She moves too fast and I would miss out on a million great shots of her if I had to stop and manually focus before each picture. If she was older and able to pose then it wouldn't be a problem. I have to send my camera into Canon for repairs and I could potentially be without it for THREE weeks. I still have my point-and-shoot but I have become so accustomed to using the DSLR and to the type of pictures it takes that I feel like I'm going to have to relearn how to use the Power Shot. Has this happened to anyone else? Did you survive?

Feeling Like a Rebel

Ok that was corny but I couldn't think of a better title for this post. My birthday present this year was a brand spanking new Canon Rebel. I have been lusting over this camera for what feels like an eternity and I am finally done lusting. No more running to the camera section of any given store and putting on my best puppy-eyes-oh-please-buy-me this-camera face. Thank goodness too because I was starting to feel ineffective in my powers of persuasion when it came to Alex. He was doing a mighty fine job at pretending not to notice my sappy face.
I had always said I wanted a nice camera by the time we had a baby because I wanted to be able to take beautiful shots of our little bundle. Now that we have that bundle, it was time to get the camera. Knowing how important picture taking and memory capturing was to me (I already have 2000 pictures of Cati and she's barely 2 months old), Alex and his family got together and gifted me with a Rebel. I'm still learning how to use the advanced settings but so far the camera has been good to me and I can see that the images are sharper, crisper, and more true to the subject than the images were with my old point and shoot. Here's a shot of my favorite subject:Now that I have a new camera I have a new excuse for going picture crazy :)
