This week's picture is of Cati's baptismal shoes. I simply adore them and I love the way they look against the black and white damask background. Plain and simple :)

This week's picture is a nature shot. I took it during one of my walks with Cati. What I like the most about the picture is the squirrel hanging out in the middle of the tree and the detail you can see in the tree's bark.

I still feel like I have a lot to learn when it comes to my camera because right now it is used mostly for taking pictures of Cati. I need to use it more because the pictures it takes are beautiful. Or as Alex puts it, "the pictures from the new camera are like looking at pictures in HD." You can tell the difference in the pictures taken with the DSLR from the ones taken with the point-and-shoot.

Picture of the Week

This week's picture is an outtake. I was taking pictures of some of the artwork we have in the house and I was trying to get a picture of this particular piece. The piece, however, was too high up for me and I ended up only getting half of the painting in the picture. I love this painting because it's of a little ballerina and I love this picture because all you see are her ballet shoes. I bought this one along with one of the moon and stars when Alex and I first started dating close to 7 years ago. It amazes me how quickly time flies.

Picture of the Week

I didn't get to take many pictures this week because my energy was low and I barely wanted to leave the house, so pickings are rather slim. The Picture of the Week is of one of my favorite flowers, the plumeria (the other is gardenia). I first discovered this flower when we went to Hawaii and was instantly in love with its look and its aroma. I even bought a frame that is made of scented plumerias. The flower comes in a variety of colors but my favorite was always the hot pink one. Imagine my joy when I realized that we have two plumeria trees on our property. The trees recently started blooming and I am constantly in search of decent looking flowers to bring into the house (I have 3 bowls ready to be filled with their flowery goodness). I decided to take pictures of some of the flowers and this one is my favorite. I love how the flower instantly draws you in; the colors are so vibrant against the background. Interestingly enough, the background is our cherry-finished dresser. I was actually surprised by the picture because I am still trying to figure out the macro function on the camera.

Picture of the Week

My favorite picture of the week was taken when I was getting ready to take Cati's 3-month pictures. I was messing around with the features on the camera (ISO, white balance, and flash) trying to get the right lighting for the pictures. Since Cati wouldn't have been patient enough to let me figure this out with her as the model, I used her tutu. I love this picture because of the different shades of pink and the different textures. I like how you can see the satin reflection of the ribbon and the netting of the tulle.

Another new feature! I really want to get to learn how to use my new camera and I need to know how to use it for pictures of things other than Cati, so I'm going to do a Picture of the Week post every Sunday. The goal is to take the camera out more, explore its features, and then share my favorite shot with you and tell you why I like it so much.

This week's picture is from Cati's nursery. It's of the silk peony hanging from her crib. The flower is actually in the flower holders we used to line the pews for our church ceremony when we got married. I love that I was able to incorporate the event that solidified our relationship in Cati's room. What I really like about the picture are the soft colors and the ribbon twisting around the flower. The picture really represents all I was going for in Cati's room: feminine, dainty, and classy.
