TWD: Blueberry Pie

It feels like forever since I last participated in Tuesdays With Dorie. While going on vacation and spending lots of time in the warm, tropical weather was nice, it's equally nice to be back home and in my own kitchen. I actually found myself missing my tiny kitchen and all the baking goods that my kitchen is stocked with. I wasn't sure if I was going to be participating this week because I wanted to ease myself back into cooking (it had been 3 weeks since I made a real meal) and I had read on the What's Cooking? board that the pie crust for the blueberry pie was a pain. But then Peabody of Northwest Noshings recommended making a cream cheese pie crust (here) and, since this recipe was quick and easy, I made the pie. I halved the pie crust recipe and quartered the blueberry filling recipe and came out with two adorable little pies.

I tried the pie and didn't love it. I thought it was good but not great. Something about the filling was a little off to me. I've never had blueberry pie before (although Alex has offered me some in the past) so I have no idea if this is a good pie or not. I'm going to have to wait for Alex to get home so that he can tell me if this pie compares to others he's had. I hope it does and that it's better than the other pies!

Thanks to Amy of South in Your Mouth for this week's selection!

Pretty, sugary berries.

Before and after the bake.

The berries look so snug :)

I just like these pictures.

Pac Man pie returns!

OMG, these pies are SO cute! You did a great job on the lattice top. That's the next thing I'll try. I'm glad to hear the cream cheese dough worked well for you. I'm one of the ones who was fighting with the dough initially, so I'll have to try that recipe. TFS! :-)

WOW! Your pies are beautiful! I love the lattice top with the sugary topping. I agree about the filling, I think it may be the amount of flour added.

Adorableness! The lattice is super cute and the smaller the food, the more darling they become. Kudos!

Love the mini-pies with the lattice tops!

I had no problem with Dorie's crust. I think the big secret is in all the freezing and chilling. You've GOT to keep it cold.

Cream cheese crust is great too, though!
