TWD: Chocolate Armagnac Cake

Is it really Tuesday again? I feel like these weeks are flying by. I can't believe it's March already! Only 16 more days until we find out where we are going to spend the next 5 years of our lives. Exciting, but very nervous times. So little feels in our control right now. I do, however, have control over one thing and that's making delicious desserts that make the anxiety disappear momentarily. Truth be told, I wouldn't be making delicious desserts weekly if it weren't for Dorie. This week's selection, Chocolate Armagnac Cake, was chosen by Lyb of And Then I Do The Dishes. Great choice Lyb! We loved this cake. I only made a third of the recipe because I didn't want to get reprimanded for baking another dessert, but I realized my mistake in not making more when the cake was gone in less than a day. I omitted the prunes and added whiskey straight into the batter. The whiskey added to the chocolate flavor and made it taste different. Between the pecans and the whisky the cake had an interesting chocolate flavor. It tasted like the bittersweet chocolate but lighter. I asked Alex how he would describe the cake and he said it tasted like a brownie.

Thanks Lyb for a great choice! Don't forget to check out what the other TWDers thought of this week's cake.

Pool of chocolate.
The delicious edges.
Crumbs.
A bite.

WE loved it, too. I omitted the frosting in an effort to save calories and cholesterol, but I made the whole cake!

Gorgeous! I love that you baked it in a tart pan and left the edges bare.

I'm a sucker for fluted edges :) Beautiful job! (I made a quarter recipe and that was a bad idea too. Ooops!)
