TWD: Chocolate Amaretti Tort

It feels great to be posting a TWD dessert. It feels like forever since my last post. I've been craving lots of chocolate lately so I was happy to have this dessert next on schedule. Thanks Holly of Phe/Mom/enon for helping to satisfy my chocolate craving! I tweaked this recipe quite a bit without really compromising the almond flavor. I halved the recipe, but instead of the amaretti and the almonds, I added 3/4 cup of almond meal. My goal with this cake was to use what I had in the house and not spend anymore money at the store (things are tight because of the Big Move). The cake was still chocolaty and nutty. I made the whipped cream, added more almond extract, and dropped a huge spoonful of it on the cake. Then I topped it with some whiskey caramel sauce...yum!
Make sure to head over to Holly's blog for the recipe and to the TWD site to read what everyone else thought of this week's selection.

So lovely.
Seriously. Delicious.
Caramel and chocolate drips.

Looks very yummy. I hear you about the trying to use what you have in house. I had to go out and buy half the ingredients. I am saving mine for an event on Friday, I am looking forward to trying it.

Almond meal was a great choice. It's too bad we didn't like the cake, even though I really love almonds.

Very elegant, Stephanie!
I'm impressed... but then again, elegance and class is everything that marvelous torte deserved! ...and goodness, you were there to give it that great flair!

Love the mini torte, looks great. I missed the deadline because of crippling back pain, but going to try and make it tonight, hate missing out.

Mmm, your torte looks amazing, and that caramel drizzle is just fabulous. You know that I'm a huge chocolate fan, and this cake looks like the most amazing way to sate that craving.
