I am so behind on posting it's not even funny. I haven't even posted any of the fun pictures from Cati's party nor have I posted pictures of Alex's really cool birthday party cake. I'm trying to catch up. Remember how I told you about Kohl's Fun and Fit as a Family event? The one I was going to without Cati? Well, I went and survived and being away from Cati for a full day wasn't as hard as I thought it would be.
The event itself was a lot of fun. I don't know if I would do it again, though, because we didn't get as much interaction with the celebrity chefs as I thought we would. The chefs were doing presentations in opposite ends of Jungle Island during the same time so you had to chose which chef you wanted to see. Half the chefs presented in a kitchen where kids actually got to make food and the other half were also in a kitchen but it was one built in the amphitheater so it was less intimate and interactive. Also, I'm assuming the amphitheater chefs were the bigger draw simply because lines started TWO hours before the presentations. We had to fight to get in to see Rachael Ray and we waited a solid 1.5 hours for Giada De Laurentiis. This part of the event is what really bothered me because it took time away from you exploring Jungle Island. I think to make things smoother people should buy tickets to the event but register for specific presentations.
Aside from that little complaint, the presentations were ok. Rachael Ray was first up and she had, by far, the quickest presentation. It was 30 minutes long just like her show. I think she made three dishes. I don't remember because she moved so fast. After she was done, she left. She was literally in and out. I was disappointed that she not only didn't hang around to take questions but she also didn't stay for an official book signing.
Rocco DiSpirito was next up and he made three things as well. I'll be honest and tell you that the only reason I went to this presentation is because I thought he was cute. We didn't stay for the entire presentation though because he did the entire thing wearing sunglasses! It was so annoying. I know this is Miami and all, but when I see you wearing sunglasses in a covered amphitheater the only thing running through my mind is that you went out the night before and had a little too much fun. Yikes.
Last up was Giada De Laurentiis. She also made three things but she gave the best presentation. She was so interactive and so sweet and even stayed after to take pictures and sign books. Her husband, Todd, was there as well and you can tell he's a fan favorite because he was all smiles and there were questions asked about him. I was obsessed with her dress and, silly me, chose to ask her the designer of the dress instead of something relevant like, how do you keep fights during feeding time with a toddler to a minimum. I also think she was the only chef to do dishes that will be in her next cookbook instead of dishes with existing published recipes. She said she wanted to do those recipes to gauge reaction to them.
So all in all, it was a cool event and I'm really glad I got to go to it. I'm just not sure if I would want to do it again because I'm not a fan of waiting in long lines and I thought the event would be different. After the day we had, I was really happy Cati stayed home because I know she would have had multiple breakdowns throughout the event with all the standing around and waiting.
