No Monkeying Around

Cati had bananas for the first time today. Banana is one of my favorite fruits so I was really excited about Cati trying banana. She just has to like it! How sad is a life without the comforts of a warm slice of banana bread? Unfortunately, Cati reacted to banana the way a person would react to eating a lemon. She refused to eat anymore banana after the first few bites and whenever a bit of it got in her mouth she puckered and spat it out. She did, however, finish her serving of banana when I tried giving it to her some 10 minutes later. Maybe it was too sweet for her? I guess we'll see how she reacts to it when I give it to her tomorrow after her veggies again.

Banana Purée
Makes ~1/2 cup

1 cup sliced banana (about 2 bananas)
Breast milk or formula (optional)

Place banana food processor, and purée. If desired, add fluid until banana reaches the best consistency for eating.

Storage: Good for 3 days in the fridge in an airtight container or up to 3 months in the freezer.

Note: This is by far the easiest baby food to make! Putting the bananas in the food processor liquefies them more than just mashing them up with a fork, but since this was Cati's first bananas meal I wanted the purée to be more liquid than solid. Plus, the consistency is great for mixing with her cereal! Also, don't be surprised by how quickly the bananas brown. I wonder if adding a bit of lemon juice would have helped.

Bananas are my favorite, too. Has she tried them again? Does she like them more now? I had a college roommate who HATED bananas, couldn't even stand to see one--how crazy is that? Hope she grows out of that!
